Senior Geospatial Engineer / GIS Technical Lead
Leading the GIS workstream of a data platform: spatial databases, WebGIS and day-to-day GIS operations. A contract: four months full-time, then three months of on-call support.

What we're looking for
- Owning the GIS workstream: spatial database engineering, WebGIS, data preparation, quality control and day-to-day GIS operations, alongside the software engineering team
- Designing and building PostgreSQL/PostGIS schemas: geometry fields, spatial indexes, queries and imports for linked geographic and descriptive records
- Preparing approved vector and raster data with QGIS and GDAL/OGR: coordinate systems, geometry, attributes, duplicates, metadata and lineage, transformed to EPSG:32637
- Map layers, geographic search and selection, measurements, persistent spatial drawing and GIS imports and exports, with the application developers
- Map-to-record workflows, spatial calculations and indicator logic, reconciled against approved source data and methods
- Controlled KoBoToolbox intake through approved API or file routes: validation, correction, review, approval and retained revisions
- Approved imagery display, local basemaps and protected file storage, with GIS functions that work without continuous internet
- Full-time GIS operational support: data cleaning, metadata, validation, quality assurance, data-entry coordination and user assistance
- Coordinating deployment, access controls and backup and restore tests with the infrastructure lead
- Based in Damascus, on site when required; remote development may be possible where approved
